Scrooge wants to win the first prize at a balloon race: 500 dollars. However, the balloon keeps sinking even after he has got rid of all superfluous ballast. In a moment of derangement Scrooge throws his last bag overboard – a million in 100-dollar bills! A pelican, with whom Scrooge seems to be at feud, slumps into the basket, bringing it down for good. Scrooge retrieves his million from the pelican’s pouch, but it annoys him very much not to have won the prize.

A tiny insect can be seen on the first page.
