Donald’s heated critc of a painting is overheard by the publisher of the Duckburg Daily Bla. As an officially employed art critic Donald is now able to give his cynicism full scope. But this does not only earn the critic kicks and black eyes. The scolded artists demand that Donald prove his big-mouthed words by joining the Duckburg Art Competition. When Donald realizes that he is not gifted enough as a painter he smudges his self-portrait and quits his job as an art critic. However, Donald’s nephews secretly enter his contribution into the contest and it even wins the first prize.

Five flying insects and Bill’s funny bird are watching the art critic.
