Donald wants to write books about speleology. For researching purposes he goes to the Duckburg caverns with his nephews. They proceed deeper and deeper into the dark abyss. After several dangerous situations a subterranean torrent finally carries them into the daylight. Grateful to have escaped from the dangers, Donald now does not want to be a writer anymore.
Bill decorated the scenery with four mosquitoes.
William Van Horn: “For some years amateur speleology or caving were at the top of my list of potential story subjects. Alas, I never had an idea how to use it. Then one day the cave subject was on my list together with an idea that Donald was to become a writer. And lo and behold, both combined formed the foundation for a new story. A story which strangely turned out to be a metaphor for the creative process of the mind. The cave was the ‘mind’ in which Donald was looking for inspiration for his writing work.”
